I am proud of the following accomplishments in my first year in the Georgia House

  • Outstanding committee appointments: All of these fit my background
    • Education
    • Energy, Utilities and Telecom
    • Science and Technology
  • Key player in tax reform legislation: During discussions on tax reform this past session, I worked with legislative staff and contacts at the Georgia Public Policy Foundation to produce a complex financial model for the impact of the tax package on everyday Georgians. Despite being a freshman, this work enabled me to help shape the course of the bills and proposals.
  • Passed my first bill: HB581 removes two positions in Forsyth County government from civil service
  • Passed a resolution supporting budget cuts: HR459 endorsed a decision by a state government agency that saves the taxpayers tens of millions of dollars
  • Education reform: I was asked by Education Chairman Brooks Coleman to do research and support the committee looking to reform our 1980's formula for funding education.
  • Named Technology Legislator of the Year for 2011: This was in my first year in the House- read more here.
  • Advocated Conservative Legislation: I co-sponsored and pushed several major pieces of conservative legislation. These included immigration reform, buying health insurance from other states, and a budget that cut over one billion dollars in state spending.
